Unseeded Roberta Vinci Ends Serena Williams's calendar Grand Slam Bid; Leander Paes and Martina Hingis win Mixed Double's title

In the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, defending champion Serena Williams' hopes of bagging a career Grand Slam ended Friday night, as Italy's Roberta Vinci stunned the world number one American to book a place in the Final at the Flushing Meadows for the first time ever. AIR correspondent reports that world number 43 Vinci, who had never won a set in four previous matches against Serena, defeated her this time out to end the top seed's 33-match Grand Slam win streak.In the Men's Singles, world number two Roger Federer defeated fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka to make the summit clash against numero uno Serb, Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, vying for his 3rd major this year, had made it to the Final beating defending champion Marin Cilic. The match will be played on Sunday night.In Mixed Doubles, the team of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis became the first pair since 1969 to win three Grand Slam mixed doubles titles in the same season. Earlier this year, the duo had won the Australian Open and Wimbledon. For Paes, it was his 17th title at the majors, while Hingis now has 19 titles overall.President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated Leander Paes and Martina Hingis for winning the title.
