UNSC to hold talks to discuss latest escalation of violence at al-Aqsa Mosque

United Nations Security Council will hold closed-door talks today in New York to discuss the latest escalation of violence at al-Aqsa Mosque, in Jerusalem. The meeting has been convened on the request of Sweden, Egypt and France.<br/> <br/>Sweden's Deputy UN Ambassador Carl Skau said in a tweet that Sweden, France and Egypt requested that the session take place in order to urgently discuss how calls for de-escalation in Jerusalem can be supported.<br/> <br/>The request was made after Israel decided to place metal detectors at the entrances to the Temple Mount. In response, Palestinians clashed with Israeli security forces. Meanwhile, Israel has said that it would not remove metal detectors, but could eventually reduce their use.
