The UN Security Council is to meet in a close session later today to discuss the Libyan crisis. It will be the first time that the Council has made indirect response to the protest sweeping through the Arab world. The meeting has been called by the Deputy Libyan Ambassador to the UN Ibrahim Dabbashi, who said the Libyan people must be protected from what he called a genocide by the authorities.
