UN Security Council has adopted a resolution to reinforce the objectives of a major treaty banning nuclear test. The 15-member body adopted the resolution Friday and called upon all countries to refrain from conducting any nuclear weapon test explosion.

It pushed for early enforcement of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, CTBT. This is a multilateral treaty by which countries agree to ban all nuclear explosions. CTBT was adopted at the UN General Assembly in 1996, but has yet to take effect.

Friday's resolution came after North Korea conducted its fifth nuclear test earlier this month. The UN Security Council has called the test a flagrant disregard of the nuclear non-proliferation regime.
