Unprecedented welcome for PM in Saudi Arabia

India and Saudi Arabia are expected to sign the Riyad Declaration today. This will be a significant advance over the Delhi Declaration issued in 2006 during the visit of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz to India. This was disclosed by Mr. Shasi Tharoor, the Minister of state for External Affairs in capital Riyad last evening. Talking to media persons, Mr. Tharoor said that the visit of the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is significant on many counts.In the second day of his 3 days official visit to the Kingdom today, the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will hold wide ranging discussion with the King Abdullah bin Abdu Aziz later in the day. At least three ministers of Saudi Arabia will also call on the Prime Minister today. Dr. Singh is also scheduled to address the Saudi Chambers of Commerce, which will be attended by the business delegation of both the countries.Earlier the Prime Minister was accorded a red carpet welcome when he arrived at the King Khalid International Airport. Dr Singh was received by Abdulaziz, also the first deputy Prime Minister and Civil Aviation Minister. Setting aside protocol, King Abdullah's brother and Defence Minister Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz and the entire Saudi cabinet received Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Singh will be accorded a formal reception by King Abdullah today at the Al Rawdah Palace, where the two leaders will hold talks and sign bilateral agreements.
