In West Bengal, unprecedented security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls in the 5th phase of Assembly elections tomorrow. Polling will take place in 38 seats covering parts of West Mednipur, Burdwan, Bankura and Purulia districts. Over 74 lakh, 7 hundred electorates will decide the political fate of 193 candidates. More than 9,400 polling booths have been set-up in the four districts. Besides the police and para military forces, 19 anti landmine vehicles have been deployed in the poll bound areas. Election Commission Special Observer Devasish Chakraborty took stock of the situation of poll preparedness in West Medinapur district yesterday. He is constantly in touch with the district administration of Maoist infested areas. Besides 20 General, 7 Expenditure and 4 Police observers are constantly monitoring the situation. AIR correspondent reports that two helicopters have been kept ready for air surveillance during the polling and one for emergency medical aid.
