Unprecedented downpour ranging from 8 to 19 cms in the Coastal and North Interior Karnataka has led to widespread loss of property. According to the preliminary reports, five people were killed and 12 others were injured in the downpour. Gulbarga and Davangere are the worst affected districts reporting maximum cases of inundation, house collapse and deaths due to lightening. Afsalpur in Gulbarga district has reported loss of standing crop of sugarcane and pulses. The Deputy Commissioner of Gulbarga Dr. R Vishal informed AIR that five people died and another five injured since last two days due to rain in the district. In Davangere district 55 houses have collapsed and five people severely injured due to wall collapse. In several places rain water has rushed into houses and cut off approach roads. In Haveri, 70 houses have been inundated due to rushing rain water and 35 houses have collapsed. The district has reported rainfall of 243 mm during the night yesterday and today. According to the weather office Mulki in Dakshin Kannada district received the highest of 19 cm rainfall yesterday night.
