In Nepal, the Chief of UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Karin Landgren called on the Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal in Kathmandu today, amidst concerns expressed by the government on UNMIN's refusal to provide information on the actual number of Maoist combatants living in the UN monitored cantonments.<br/><br/>Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Landgren said she discussed with the Prime Minister about Nepal's peace process and whether any progress can be expected on the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants. She said it is the responsibility of the Maoists to provide correct information on the number of Maoist army personnel in the cantonments, adding they have not done so. Landgren said she had reminded the Maoist Chairman Prachanda of this responsibility when she met him yesterday. The UNMIN Chief said it is for the government to determine regarding the salary to be provided to the Maoist army.<br/><br/>Nepal government has expressed serious concern over UNMIN's recent statement that it cannot provide information on Maoist combatants citing such information as confidential. The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction in a press statement said no confidential information had been sought from UNMIN. The statement says it had sought authentic information on the actual number of Maoist combatants living in the cantonments amidst reports that many have already left the cantonments.<br/>
