The United State Assistant Secretary of State for Counselor Affairs Ms. Janice L. Jacobs has said that there is unlimited opportunity for Indian students to study in the US, under safe and secure environment. Addressing a gathering of students and journalists at the American Centre in Kolkata today, Ms. Jacobs said that the Kolkata Consulate of US has issued more than twelve hundred visas last year and in coming years, the number is likely to grow further. She said that at present, more than ninety-five thousand students are studying in the US. Ms. Jacobs said that under the treaty of Fulbright Scholarship exchange progoramme signed between India and the US in 1950, about nine thousand eight hundred American Students come to India to pursue their studies and five thousand Indian Students have gone to study in the US, under the same programme.
