In Maharashtra, the University of Pune has introduced, a compulsory course in Human Rights and Duties which will cover post-graduate studies in all its faculties. The state government has asked all the universities to make study of human rights mandatory in its curriculum. The Director, Board of College and University Development, Vasudeo Gade said that the aim of this programme is to spread awareness among the student's community and to promote a culture of human rights and values. University of Pune is the first university in Maharashtra and perhaps also in the country to have introduced a mandatory subject like Human Rights and Duties.
