University of Ladakh in collaboration with GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, NIHE, Regional Centre in Ladakh, has conducted lectures to celebrate the third day of Science Week, in Leh today Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.<br />''A Week-long event to promote scientific temperament and achievements, Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate Science Festival is being celebrated till February 28th commemorating discovery of Raman Effect by Sir CV Raman for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.<br />''<br />''Speaking on "Climate Change in Himalayas", GB Pant NIHE Director Dr Subrat Sharma said acceleration of global warming is adversely affecting the Himalayan region.&nbsp;<br />''<br />''Prof. Dr Riyaz MK Khan said the ever growing Himalayan region has to adopt earthquake resistance technologies. He said Himalayas are growing Five millimeters per year, which keeps the entire region in a faulty zone for earthquakes.<br />''<br />''University of Ladakh &nbsp;Vice Chancellor Prof. SK Mehta and LAHDC Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk also addressed.<br />
