Universal IDs for Divyangjan to be issued from January 2017: Gehlot

Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot has said, reservation of Divyang persons will be enhanced from 4 to 5 percent in education and 3 to 4 percent in government jobs. Addressing the foundation day function of the National Trust in New Delhi today, Mr Gehlot said the Gazette Notification for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has already been issued. He said, in the new bill, there will be 19 categories in place of present 7 categories for Disabilities. <br/><br/>National Trust is a Statutory Body under Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities of Social Justice and Empowerment ministry.<br/><br/>Mr. Gehlot said, the government has many historic achievements to its credit in the last two and half years. He said, for the first time, center has started scholarships for divyang persons. The Minister said, Centre is working on Universal Identity Card for the Divyangjan and the cards will be issued from January next year. He said, the identity card will be valid across the country and help the disabled to get benefits of the the welfare schemes. <br/> <br/>The Minister also launched the Mobile App and Facebook Page of the National Trust. Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gujjar and Ramdas Athawale were also present on the occasion. Mr Gujjar said, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very sincere for empowerment and skill development of the divvangjan and his government has adopted Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan aimed at making India disabled friendly. <br/><br/>The Minister informed that more than Six lakh disabled friendly devices has been distributed in 4350 camps across the country in last two and half years.
