Rajya Sabha Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari has said the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is a milestone document. Making a reference on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the declaration in the House, he said it sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected.
The Chairman said, the day is celebrated the world over as Human Rights Day. He said, the declaration provides an opportunity to remember the ideals of universality and indivisibility of fundamental human rights.
He said, the day, this year, focuses on the rights of all people–women, youth, minorities, persons with disabilities, indigenous people, the poor and the marginalized– to make their voices heard in public and be included in political decision-making.
