Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today stressed the need to continue the national government with the participation of the United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) despite the difficulties.<br/><br/>Addressing a foundation-stone-laying-ceremony near capital Colombo, the Prime minister said, development projects are not being implemented to get political advantage for the UNP or SLFP. He said, they have formed the national government under President Maithripala Sirisena as they saw the need to provide a better future especially for those in the working class. <br/><br/>His statement came as unity government is under strain with a section of SLFP members demanding the party to disassociate from the government. <br/><br/>They have threatened to sit in the opposition rather than continuing with the government. President Sirisena has sought time up to year end to see the performance of government even as a meeting is scheduled this week to chart out party's future course of action.
