United Nations Secretary makes visit to Afghanistan

United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon is visiting Afghanistan capital of Kabul today following the attack on a UN guesthouse last week in which five UN staff members were killed and the ongoing political crisis before the second round of elections. Mr Ban is scheduled to meet UN staff, President Hamid Karzai and Dr Abdullah Abdullah to assure them and the Afghan people of the continuing support of the United Nations towards the development of the country. His visit comes as there is lot of negotiations going behind the scenes over holding of elections scheduled for Saturday as Dr. Abdullah announced not to participate in elections on Sunday.<br/><br/>President Karzai and his team are favoring the election process to go forward as per constitution. UN head in Afghanistan Mr. Kai Eide called for conclusion of the electoral process in a legal and timely manner.
