Chief Justice of India T S Thakur has said that Union Territories of the country must have their human rights commissions as nobody should be deprived of their rights. Speaking at the Human Rights day programme organized by National Human Rights Commission in New Delhi today, Chief Justice Thakur said, even a place like Union Territory of Delhi does not have State Human Rights Commission. Chief Justice Thakur stressed on the need for special courts in every district for trail of cases of human rights violations. <br/><br/>Expressing concern over the rising level of atmospheric pollution, he said, pollution is also violation of human rights. He said, clean environment is everyone's right and pollution is breach of environment protection law. Referring to rejection of NHRC's recommendations by the States, the Chief Justice observed that states must give reasons for rejecting commission's order. He asked the Centre to consider amending the 22-year-old law for providing more teeth to the National Human Rights Commission and state rights bodies to make certain recommendations by them binding on the Executive.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said, India has been equivocal in protecting human rights in the country as well at the global level. He said, Judiciary, Legislature, Executive have to work together to protect human rights.
