Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari have announced one-lakh-crore rupees worth new projects for Tamil Nadu. He reviewed various central infrastructure projects with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy in Chennai yesterday.<br/><br/>Later, he told the media, works on three new expressway projects including the one connecting Chennai with Bengaluru at a cost of 20-thousand crore rupees will commence very soon.<br/><br/>He said Detailed Project Reports for three new elevated corridors in and around Chennai to ease the traffic in the metro city, including Tambaram – Chengleput, Poonamallee – Maduravoyal and Chennai – Nellore are being prepared. <br/>'<br/>Mr Gadkari said interlinking of 40 Himalayan rivers and 16 peninsular rivers is being studied by the Union Water Resources Ministry. To tide over the perennial problem of water shortage in Tamil Nadu and other southern states, he said, an action plan has been prepared for diverting 300 TMC water from the River Godavari to River Cauvery. He said, 3000 TMC water is let into the sea every year from River Godavari. <br/><br/>Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy later said, the Centre has announced massive infrastructure projects for the state on an unprecedented scale and expressed thanks to Mr Gadkari.
