<span style="color: #222222;">In Meghalaya, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting along with Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Dr. L. Murugan, who is on a two-day visit to the state, today interacted with fish farmers and beneficiaries of various schemes of the government.<br />''<br />''The MoS visited a fish farm at Umeit village in Ri Bhoi district and encouraged other to take up fish farming and provide employment opportunities for others. He also visited a site in Umiam lake where fish seeds are released to Umiam river.<br />''<br />''Later, the Minister interacted with fish farmers who are undergoing training for fish farming at the Meghalaya State Fisheries Research and Training Institute at Mawpun Kshaid, Ri Bhoi district.<br />''<br />''The Minister highlighted various fisheries related schemes which have been launched by the Union Government during the last eight years. He talked about the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY)- a scheme to bring about Blue Revolution through sustainable and responsible development of fisheries sector with a highest ever investment of 20,050 crore rupees for a period of five years with effect from 2020-21 to 2024-25 in all the States and Union Territories. He further mentioned that the Union Government has invested huge amounts of money for infrastructural development for fisheries and urged upon the fish farmers to capitalise on the opportunities provided by the government. He further added that PMMSY aims at enhancing fish production by an additional 70 lakh tonnes by 2024-25, increasing fisheries export earnings to 1,00,000 crore rupees by 2024-25. Despite the set back due to COVID 19, the country has been able to achieve around 59, 000 crore rupees export of fish produce during this year, he added.<br />''<br />''The MoS will be interacting with officials of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting tomorrow and visit AIR, Cherrapunji.</span><br />
