<span style="color: #000000;">Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries Dr. L. Murugan today visited fishing harbours at Tiruvottiyur Kuppam and Kasimedu in Chennai. At Tiruvottiyur Kuppam, the Minister interacted with State and Central Government officials on the status of the fishing harbour project. The project is taken up by Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries. The fund undertakes development of fishing infrastructure facilities like fishing harbours, fish landing centres, fish seed plants and creation of cold chain infrastructure facilities. The Union Government has announced development of five major fishing harbours and hubs of economic activities including Kasimedu fishing harbour.<br />''<br />''Later, the Minister interacted with the fishermen and explained the various schemes meant for the welfare of the fishermen. He said that the Union Government had implemented various schemes for the economic empowerment of the fishermen in the state. He will visit fishermen village at Pulicat in Tiruvallur district. He will also listen to their issues and interact with them on various schemes implemented by the Centre for all round development of the fishing community.</span><br />
