Union Minister Sonowal chairs meeting to review preparedness to minimise loss from ensuing Cyclone Biporjoy

Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a meeting with central and Gujarat government officials to review the preparedness to minimise loss from ensuing Cyclone Biporjoy on Wednesday. The cyclone located 280 km away from the coast of Kutch is expected to potentially collide near the Jakhau after 4 pm tomorrow. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister informed that the evacuation of coastal residents is underway, with rest shelters established for affected individuals post the cyclone. He said that emergency care, including medical and nutritional support, is being provided as well. The Minister also informed that preparedness to ensure safety of large ships in the affected areas is also being reviewed.<br />''  <br />'' The Ports, Shipping and Waterways Ministry has informed that the Kandla Port Authority has set up control rooms and conducted public awareness campaigns. Vessels have been moved out of the impact zone, and necessary precautions have been taken to safeguard property. It said, around three thousand people, living in the Port area and other low lying areas around it, have already been evacuated and shifted to relief shelters.
