Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said a separate law has to be enacted to provide reservation for more sections of people in the country. Talking to media in Hyderabad today, he said that reservation to various sections of people now account for 49.5 per cent with 15 per cent being Scheduled Castes, 7.5 per cent Scheduled Tribes and 27 per cent Backward Classes-who formed 77 per cent of the population. <br/><br/>Quoting the Supreme Court verdict that reservations should not to exceed 50 per cent of the population, the Minister said a separate law has to be enacted to provide reservations upto 75 per cent covering other sections of the population including economically backward communities. Union Minister felt that the caste system in the country can be annihilated through inter-caste marriages.
