Union Minister Piyush Goyal addresses convocation ceremony of NIFT Mumbai

<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) should be an institute where each student's work is a showcase of India's soft power at the global stage. Addressing the convocation ceremony of NIFT Mumbai on Friday evening, Mr. Goyal said there is a need for refurbishment of NIFT and adoption of advanced technology to make this a reality.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Mr. Goyal further announced a freeze in the fees hike and asked NIFT Mumbai to work with industry and get students a six month paid internship rather than a six week job without any honorarium. Mr. Goyal said the government will also look to expand scholarships and reduce the time taken in the admission process. The minister further said each of the 18 NIFT campuses should annually recommend a few students, especially from underprivileged backgrounds to take up the Dual Degree Programme that is offered by Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. he said that the government will fund the fees of these students.</span></p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><br />''</p>''<p style="margin: 0px; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: #222222;">Emphasizing that graduation is not the end of a journey, but a beginning of a new future, Mr. Goyal hoped that the graduating students, the first batch of India's Amrit Kaal, won't just run after jobs but become successful fashion designers, entrepreneurs, fashion journalists and even teachers at NIFT to guide the future students. He said students can also look to reviving traditional arts such as GI arts and heritage-related arts. They can also visit handloom and handicraft clusters, get those artisans and weavers on board and introduce their products to the Government e-marketplace.</span></p>
