Union Minister of Textiles, Dr. K S Rao today said that his ministry is planning to get a priority status for the textile industry. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Dr. Rao said that being a priority sector the textile industry would be able to get funds immediately when required. He added that the ministry is trying to get more skilled workers in the industry by training people from below poverty line category.He also urged the industry to tap solar power to solve the problem of power shortages. Talking about exports, Dr. Rao said the exports are expected to reach 50 billion US Dollars by 2014-15 . Minister added that the Ministery is expanding the basket of exports for faster exports. HE added that cotton imports would be limited to around 2 million bales as against the target of 2.5 million bales for this year due to depreciation of rupee.
