Union Minister of Ports Sarbananda Sonowal launches two barges at Haldia Port

<span style="color: #222222;">Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal launched two barges at Haldia today, to carry steel to Pandu port in Assam via Bangladesh from Haldia through Indo-Bangladesh Protocol No. 1 waterway. The barges named APJ Abdul Kalam and Kalpana Chawla are carrying TMT steel bars of 1798 metric tonnes. The barges are being pulled on by a tug named Ram Prasad Bismil. The barges will travel Hemnagar, Chandpur on Meghna river, Chilmari and then enter Assam in India. On their return path the barges will take coal from Assam. Transportation costs through waterways are less than that on the road. This will help easy and profitable business at Haldia Port.</span><br />
