Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari conducted an aerial inspection of expressways under construction between Bengaluru-Chennai and Bengaluru-Mysuru on Thursday. Speaking to mediapersons later Mr. Gadkari said that the Bengaluru Chennai expressway is likely to be ready by March 2024 and the Bengaluru Mysuru expressway is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month. He said a shorter Greenfield route between Bengaluru and Chennai will reduce travel distance and travel time.<br />'' <br />''Instead of 330 kms and five hours of travel time, the commuters will travel 262 kms and take two hours and fifteen minutes to travel between Bengaluru and Chennai. This will also reduce the logistics cost from 16 percent to less than 10 percent. The vehicle can run at a speed of 120 kms on signal free roads. The travel time between Bengaluru and Mysuru will come down from three hours to one and a half hours. The Road Transport Minister also informed that he has suggested to develop Amruth Mahotsav garden and Amruth Sarovar beside the highways to conserve water and improve ground water. The Minister added that these highways will have roadside amenities, satellite based toll collection system, CCTV, speed checking machines, trauma care centres and helipads.
