Union Minister Hardeep Puri addresses delegates of G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group meeting

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri addressed the delegates of G20 Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group meeting in Bengaluru on Friday in virtual mode. In his initial remarks, the Union minister expressed his solidarity with the people of Turkiye in this moment of grief and said that India will continue to extend all possible humanitarian and medical support in this time of need. The minister noted that it is in the same spirit of global oneness as one family, G20 works with the theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, as reflected in its mascot, 'One Earth, One Family, one Future'.<br />'' <br />'' Mr. Puri said that the global south in particular looks up to G20 dialogue and desires an urgent consensus to prevent climate crisis and a debt crisis for the developing nations.  Noting that India champions the aspirations of the global south, the minister said that the Panchamrit Action plan announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP26 in Glasgow envisages India becoming a net zero emissions country by 2070. He pointed out that India is the only developing country in the world which has declared such a short time span to become net zero. This demonstrates that India considers economy and ecology as being fundamentally intertwined and not at odds with each other.<br />'' <br />''The Minister noted that the three identified priority areas to be discussed in the Working Group are aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) concept.  It works on mindful and deliberate utilisation, instead of mindless and destructive consumption in a bid to protect and preserve the environment. The minister said that the Working Group can adopt the core tenets of the LiFE movement and promote the uptake of sustainable living at a global scale. He hoped that the deliberations by the members will help build a bold, visionary roadmap that can be shared with the G20 leaders.
