V. Sadananda Gowda informed this during the inauguration of a Janaushadhi Kendra in Bengaluru yesterday. He appealed to all the doctors in government hospitals to prescribe generic medicines. There are 7,500 Janaushadhi Kendras in the country and Karnataka alone has 850 such shops.<br />''<br />''Saying that a survey has shown that 15 to 30 per cent of the household income is spent on medicines, the Minister informed that over one crore people are pushed below the poverty line due to this every year. The Janaushadhi shops provide BP tablets at a price of 250 to 300 rupees as against 2,500 to 3,000 rupees charged for the branded medicines. Mr Gowda said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced this programme to provide quality medicine at minimum cost to the people. He informed that the Prime Minister will have a video conference with Janaushadhi vendors and beneficiaries as part of Janaushadhi Week to be held next month.</span><br />
