Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur says having G20 presidency at time when India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsov is matter of great pride for country

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur  today said that having G20 presidency at a time when India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsov is a matter of great pride for the country.  He was interacting with the media in Guwahati. The Minister is in Guwahati on a day long visit to review the preparedness of the Youth20 inception meeting in the State.<br />'' <br />'' Mr. Thakur further stated that Assam, being a major hosting state of holding several events under G20 presidency could get ample benefits. The State will be able to showcase its culture, literature, cuisine , handicrafts, organic products and how a conflict zone can be turned into a peaceful state and this may attract significant amounts of foreign investment to this state.<br />'' The Union Minister informed that the Y20 meetings and other related events will be held from 6th to 8th February in all the 31 districts of the State. Several programmes will be organised as part of the Y20 meeting.<br />''  <br />'' Earlier in the day, Mr. Thakur visited the IIT Guwahati campus followed by Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in the city, major venues for the Y20 events, to review the preparedness of the Y20 meeting. Later, in the day, senior state as well as Central government officials briefed him about the preparedness and the Union Minister suggested several points to turn the Y20 into a memorable and successful event.<br />'' <br />''Started in 2012, the Y20 is the youth version of the G20 Summits and it is one of the most influential international diplomatic forums for young leaders. It is also one of eight official engagement groups under the G20 umbrella. The G20 rotating presidency bears the responsibility of hosting the youth summit, which usually takes place some weeks prior to the traditional forum to know what the youths are thinking and incorporate their suggestions in their own policy proposals. It is an attempt to create a connecting point between G20 governments and their local youth.
