Union Minister Anant Hegde today tendered an apology to the Lok Sabha for his remarks against the Constitution. In the wake of opposition protest over his comments, Mr Hegde said his statement was twisted but if it has hurt the feelings of people, he apologises for it. Mr Hegde said he respects the Constitution, Parliament and Baba Saheb B R Ambedkar. The Minister said the Constitution is supreme for him and as a citizen, he can never go against it. <br/><br/>Since yesterday, Congress members have been protesting against his remarks in and outside Parliament. The government has already distanced itself from the statement of Mr Hegde's reported remarks saying it does not subscribe them. Mr Hegde, who is an MP from Uttara Kannada constituency in Karnataka had allegedly made the remarks recently at a function in the state.<br/>Earlier, in the morning Congress MPs led by party president Rahul Gandhi protested in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Parliament House premises demanding the sacking of Ananth Hegde.
