Union Cabinet reshuffle tomorrow

The Union Cabinet reshuffle is likely to take place tomorrow evening. Official sources said that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is expected to fill vacancies in the Cabinet after the resignation of Pawan Kumar Bansal as Railway Minister and Ashwani Kumar as Law and Justice Minister. Mr Bansal resigned last month in the wake of an alleged bribery case involving his nephew and a Railway Board member.

Mr Kumar had to resign following controversy over alledged vetting of CBI probe report on coal blocks allocation. Other vacancies in the Union Cabinet were created with the resignations of Ministers belonging to DMK which withdrew support to the UPA alliance.

Meanwhile, Road Transport and Highways and Railway Minister Dr C P Joshi has also resigned from his post. Reports say, Dr Joshi resigned to work in the Congress organisation. Earlier, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Ajay Maken resigned yesterday expressing desire to work for the Congress party. An official release issued in New Delhi today said, President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted both the resignations.

AIR correspondent reports, in addition to changes in the Union Cabinet, the ruling Congress is also preparing for organisational changes ahead of the next general elections.
