Union Cabinet reshuffle likely during week end

A reshuffle in the Union Cabinet is likely to take place during the week end. Highly placed sources confirmed this to AIR. Sources, however, said that the details are yet to be finalised. AIR correspondent reports that there are several portfolios lying vacant after the resignation of A. Raja from the cabinet in the wake of 2G spectrum issues and shifting of Prithviraj Chavan as Chief Minister of Maharasthra. Mr. Shashi Tharoor holding the portfolio of Minister of State for External Affairs also resigned earlier following IPL controversy. The Congress party sources earlier said that some of the leaders in the Council of Ministers may also be drafted for the party work. The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh met the President Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil yesterday at Rashtrapati Bhavan and discussed the forthcoming Budget Session of Parliament and current economic situation. In their 45 minutes meeting, price rise, internal security and other national and international issues also came up for discussion.
