Union Cabinet approves exchange of letters of agreement

The Union Cabinet today approved the exchange of letters of agreement between United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Government towards organizing the Informal Ministerial Dialogue on Climate Change. This will pave the way for New Delhi in cooperation with the Government of Mexico and the United Nations to organize an Informal Ministerial Dialogue on 'Climate Change on ninth and tenth of this month. According to an official press release, the Delhi Dialogue will enable the Ministers from about 50 countries to discuss and develop consensus on the design of a global technology mechanism for development, deployment and delivery of clean technologies in the context of climate change to developing countries. Ministers and high-level representatives from Governments drawn from different regions and political groups as also the international organizations involved with the issue have been invited to the Dialogue. The Ministerial Dialogue, 2010 will be a follow up of the high level Conferences on 'Climate Change: Technology Development and Transfer' held in New Delhi in October 2009. The agreement will facilitate involvement of United Nations department of Economic and Social Affairs and New Delhi towards organizing a military of dialogue in the climate change summit at Cancun in December.
