Finance Secretary R S Gujral has said that the Union Budget presented in Parliament seeks fiscal consolidation measures and also on the need to control deficit. Addressing a post budget Press conference in New Delhi, he said, measures have been taken to increase revenue and control expenditure. He said the impact of international crude oil prices on the economy was very significant. The Finance Secretary said, the industry had been under stress and efforts have been made to support it. Gujral said, the hike in excise duty and service taxes is not expected to have much impact on inflation as it depends on how much of the increase is passed on to the consumer. The Economic Affairs secretary R. Gopalan said a political commitment has been made to move from subsidies to more productive areas. In reply to a question he also said, 40, 000 crore rupees is expected to come through auction of telecom Spectrum including available 2G spectrum, 4 G .
