Union Budget 2017: AIIMS to be set up in Jharkhand, Gujarat

Presenting the Union budget for 2017-18 in the Lok Sabha today, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said two new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will be set up in Jharkhand and Gujarat. <br/><br/>To make doing business easy, the budget proposes several measures. Individual Insurance agents having an income below the taxable limits are exempted from tax deducted at source – TDS. <br/><br/>Considering the wide range of use of LNG as fuel, the budget proposes to reduce the basic customs duty from 5 percent to 2.5 percent. <br/><br/>Smokers have to pay more and Pan masalas also becomes dearer. Renewable Energy to cost less. <br/><br/>The crop insurance is to be strengthened. The coverage of The Fasal Bima Yojana launched by the government to safeguard against natural calamities to be increased to 40 percent in 2017-18 and 50 percent in 2018-19 as against 30 percent. <br/><br/>On the rural sector, the allocation have been increased to bring one crore rural households out of poverty under Antyodaya Mission. 50 thousand gram panchayats to be made free from poverty by 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Budget proposes highest ever allocation for MGNERGA of 48,000 crore rupees in 2017-18 as against 38,500 crore rupees 216-17. One crore houses are to be completed by 2019 for the houseless and those living in Kutcha houses. <br/><br/>To get 100 percent electrification, the allocation has been increased to 4,800 crore rupees under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in 2017-18. <br/><br/>Focusing on the youth, the budget proposes imparting of new skill in the rural areas. Mason training will be provided to 5 lakh persons by 2022, with an immediate target of training at least 20,000 persons in 2017-18.

Mahila Shakti Kendra are to be set up at village level with allocation of 500 crore rupees in 14 lakh anganwadi centres. <br/><br/>For the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, allocation for the implementation of various schemes has been proposed to increase by 35 percent to over 52 thousand crore rupees, from 38 thousand 8 hundred crores.
