Unidentified disease kills 44 children in Bihar

In Bihar, at least 44 children have died of an unidentified disease during the last one week in Muzaffarpur district of the sate. AIR Patna correspondent reports that those who have died were in the age group of two to ten years. Till date 76 children are reported to be suffering from the disease which has spread to East Champaran and Gopalganj districts of the state.However Health department officials said that he had reports of eighteen children died at Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital in Muzaffarpur He also said that he had no details of children succumbing to the disease at different private hospitals. The Health Minister Ashwani kumar Chaubey told AIR that the disease had not been diagnosed and patients were being given symptomatic treatment.Two teams of doctors of National Institute of Virology Pune and National Institute of Communicable Diseases Delhi today visited the different hospitals of the district and collected samples of blood of the ill children. Dr. B. B .Tandley of National Institute of Virology said that the disease could be ascertained only after the test of blood sample of the patients.
