In Bihar, a central team of doctors on Wednesday visited several hospitals in Muzaffarpur district of the state to ascertain the cause of an unidentified disease that has claimed the lives of 45 children during the last one week in Muzaffarpur district. AIR Patna correspondent reports that one more death was reported on Wednesday. The children who died due to the unidentified disease were in the age group of two to ten years. Two teams of doctors of the National Institute of Virology Pune and National Institute of Communicable Diseases Delhi collected samples of blood of the sick children. Dr. B. B .Tandley of National Institute of Virology said that the disease could be ascertained only after the testing of blood sample of the patients. 75 children are reported to be suffering from the disease which has spread to Muzaffarpur, East Champaran and Gopalganj districts of the state. An Health department official said that eighteen children had died at Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital in Muzaffarpur. He also said that, he however had no details of children succumbing to the disease at different private hospitals. State Health Minister Ashwani Kumar Chaubey told AIR that the disease had not been diagnosed and the patients were being given symptomatic treatment.
