India says, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change should remain the foundation of any action on Climate Change. It also called for guarding against a weak and merely declaratory outcome at next month's summit on global warming at Copenhagen in Denmark. Special Envoy of the Prime Minister on climate change, Shyam Saran said, the UN Framework seeks common but differentiated responsibilities. Speaking at the concluding session of climate change meet at Barcelona in Spain last evening, he said, the Bali Action Plan equally must continue to form the mandate of the continuing work on environment issues. As per Bali Action Plan, developed countries are committed to cut their carbon emissions to a certain level while keeping out the developing nations from such bindings. Demanding global support in the form of financial and technological resources, he also asked the developed countries to come up with significant emission reduction targets, as a part of their legal obligations as per Kyoto Protocol. Asserting that India is taking several steps to combat the threat, Mr Saran referred to National Action Plan on Climate Change, enlisting ways to combat climate change, which was unveiled by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh last year.
