Uneasy Calm prevails over the Kashmir Valley where curfew remained in force in Srinagar and other major towns for the third consecutive day today. A police spokesman said, there is no report of any violation of curfew from anywhere so far. However, in Jammu Division, three persons were killed and several others injured in Mendhar township of Poonch district when protestors clashed with Police and tried to set afire some government offices. AIR Poonch Correspondent quoting official sources reports that the trouble started when people in Mendhar town took out a procession and started heavy stone pelting on Police and Security personnel. The protestors attacked several government offices, burnt a Police vehicle. Police initially resorted to lathi charge and burst tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Sensing the situation getting out of control, Police opened fire which left three protestors dead and 11 others injured some of them seriously. District Administration has rushed more police personnel to Mendhar.Curfew has been clamped in Mendhar township and Army called in to assist the civil administration in bringing the situation under control.
