Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar today said that currently 288 Jan Shikshan Sansthans JSSs are functional in the country. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, The Minister said the Ministry is implementing the scheme through the agencies to impart skill training to the non-literates, persons with a rudimentary level of education, and school dropouts in the age group of 14-45 years, in the rural and urban slums. Under this scheme, priorities are given to women, SC, ST, minorities and other backward sections of society. He said that the main objective of the JSS scheme is to increase household income by promoting self-employment.
