Delhiites are facing a situation of uncertainity due to stand off between Delhi government and power distribution companies. The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission-DERC has decided to increase power tariff in the national capital region by up to eight per cent from today. The decision has been taken to adjust the power purchase cost of the distribution companies.
The fuel cost adjustment has resulted in a hike in surcharge, which will be to the tune of 8 per cent for BSES Yamuna Power Limited , 6 per cent for BSES Rajdhani Power Limited and 7 per cent for Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited. The Commission has approved the Power Purchase Cost Adjustment surcharge on a provisional basis for the period from 1st of February to 30th of April, 2014.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Government has strongly condemned the decision to hike the tariff. Chief Minister Avind Kejriwal said that when an audit by the CAG had already been ordered, such a hike was uncalled for.
Meanwhile, BSES Yamuna, which supplies electricity to nearly 14 lakh households, has written to Delhi's Power Secretary that unless state power firms such as NTPC and NHPC provide electricity on credit, power cuts would begin from today. NTPC had rejected the Delhi Government's plea not to stop power supply to BSES Yamuna Power Ltd for defaulting on payments.
