United Nations has said that it will help with efforts to find a negotiated end to war in Afghanistan adding that there is no military solution. UN top diplomat in the war-torn country Staffan De Mistura said he believed that resolution to the war was in sight but final stages of negotiations are most perilous. He said UN will do all what it can do to help but ultimately it will be an Afghan-led solution. The UN official said Afghanistan needs and deserves reconciliation but warned that it would not be an easy process. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said there have been preliminary contacts with Taliban militants but US Special representative Richard Holbrooke said these contacts fall short of formal peace process. The latter has asserted that Taliban commanders are increasingly approaching for reconciliation but Taliban leadership has termed such reports mere propaganda to divide the militancy.
