The United Nations Human Rights Commissioner, Ms. Navi Pillay, has urged Uganda to stop using what she described as excessive force against opposition protestors. Ms. Pillay said the action of the Ugandan authorities was a major factor in turning peaceful protests into a national crisis in which eight people have been killed. She described as shocking the treatment of the Ugandan Opposition leader, Dr. Kiiza Besigye who has still not fully recovered his sight after being doused by pepper spray by the Ugandan police. Another opposition protest against rising living costs is planned tomorrow.
