UN under secy general urges Nepal's political parties to redouble their efforts to complete peace process

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe has urged Nepal's political parties to redouble their efforts to complete the peace process and the adoption of a new constitution by May next year. Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu before wrapping up his two-day visit to Nepal on Thursday afternoon, Pascoe said the political leaders he met during his visit have reaffirmed their commitment to move the peace process forward and to complete the integration and rehabilitation in a timely manner. He said while these positive indications and promising signs of progress are good, they depend on the political will to break the political impasse and build the consensus. Pascoe said the Security Council has made it clear that UNMIN will leave Nepal on January 15, and urged the parties to use coming months productively. UN Mission is Nepal was established in 2007 with a mandate to monitor the management of arms and armies, provide technical and logistical support to the Constituent Assembly elections and give political support to the peace process.
