The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said a Libya summit will be held this week. Ban said the meeting will include the heads of the African Union, the European Union, the Arab League and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. The Secretary General said he had no idea where Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi was hiding but called on Gaddafi's fighters to cease violence immediately and make way for a smooth transition. Ban also offered UN help with Libya's post-conflict transition. He said the United Nations is now prepared to assist in all vital areas including security, rule of law, economic recovery, writing a constitution and holding elections. The UN leader welcomed assurances given by the National Transitional Council leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil that extreme care will be taken to protect people and public institutions and to maintain law and order.
