UN special envoy hails RBI's work on financial inclusion

UN Special Envoy and Dutch Queen Maxima today praised the RBI's work on financial inclusion. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai after meeting RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, Queen Maxima said that RBI has one of the most comprehensive and forward looking visions on financial inclusion around the globe. She said a lot has changed in India during the past five years and specifically pointed to deeper penetration of mobile phones and awareness about financial literacy as well as consumer protection as "positive changes". The UN Secretary General's Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, Queen Maxima said that there is a lot to learn from the Indian experience on financial inclusion. She, however, called for more innovative efforts at making financial products available to low-income households.
