UN Security Council extends mandate of UN Mission in Nepal

The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of United Nations Mission in Nepal by another four months. With the latest extension the Mission will remain in Nepal till September 15, even as its current mandate is ending on Friday. UNMIN's spokesperson Cosmos Biswakarma told AIR that a meeting of the UN Security Council at New York on Wednesday night voted unanimously for extension. While extending the mandate, the Security Council has called on Nepal government to work with Maoist combatants to implement a time bound action plan with clear benchmarks for the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist army personnel.
