The UN Security Council has adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the panel of experts on Iran sanctions until next year. The resolution was adopted with 14 voting in favour and one abstention. Lebanon, a non-permanent Council member, abstained from the voting on the draft resolution, which was presented by France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. The current mandate of the panel of experts was set to expire on Thursday, which the Council renewed till June 9, 2012. The resolution noted the “proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, as well as their means of delivery, continues to constitute a threat to international peace and security.”
