UN Security Council expresses grave concern over prevailing situation in Nepal

The Chief of UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) Karin Landgren has called upon political parties to work together in the spirit of consensus and compromise to make a tangible result in the peace process within the extended period of the UN mission in Nepal.Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu today afternoon on her return after briefing the UN Security Council in New York, Landgren said UNMIN has long warned of a dangerous slide in the peace process, with the delay in promulgating the constitution, and on integrating and rehabilitating the Maoist army personnel, in a polarized and mistrustful political climate. The UNMIN Chief said the Security Council has expressed grave concern over the prevailing situation in Nepal and called on all sides to resolve their differences through peaceful negotiation.AIR Correspondent reports that the Security Council on Wednesday renewed the mandate of UNMIN for four months, until 15 September on the request of the government of Nepal.
