The United Nations says Libya has agreed to let it send a team to assess the humanitarian situation. The team will go initially to the capital, Tripoli. The UN has launched an emergency appeal for aid to help Tunisia, Libya and Egypt to deal with the humanitarian crisis. A report from Benghazi says opposition forces are facing increasingly serious resistance from government forces as they move westward from the stronghold in Benghazi. As opposition forces get closer to the key government stronghold of Sirte, they have come across much more serious resistance from government forces. There were attacks from artillery, helicopter gunships and war planes. In the town of Ras Lanuf, two kilometres back from the frontline, residents have been pilling belongings into their cars and heading out of town.
