UN offers to facilitate peace dialogue between Syrian Govt & Opposition

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has said that the UN would welcome and be prepared to facilitate a dialogue between the opposition and the Syrian government for a peace deal. A joint statement to this effect was released by the UN Chief, Ban Ki Moon and the UN Arab League Special envoy on Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi yesterday. The statement comes close on the heels of a flurry of diplomatic activities to end the conflict in Syria.

US President Obama and Russian President Putin spoke on phone and have called for fresh initiaitves to resolve the crisis in Syria.The Syrian foreign Minister Walid Al Moallem said in Teheran that the regime is open for a dialogue with the opposition. The leader of the Syrian National opposition coalition, Moaz Al Khatib has already said that he is willing to hold talks with the Vice President Farooq Al Shara or any one who is not involved in violent activities against the opposition.
